In our latest D&D campaign, we used an optional Unearthed Arcana rule for Druids acquiring new Wild Shapes. It involves meeting the potential animals and making Animal Handling or Nature checks based on their CR.

It’s worked quite well, especially in the dinosaur-filled jungles of Chult. The Splicer Class builds on this idea with the ability to absorb essence from beasts and monstrosities.

After dispelling the life-trapping mirror and quickly dispatching the troll, the party surprised me by sending most of their companions up the staircase and out of the dungeon. They have a point though. At this point in the campaign they are more of a liability than a source of extra firepower.

Dungeon Defenders Awakened Review [Pixelkin]

What is the difference between a new game and a remake? Despite being labeled as an all-new game in the tower-defense series, Dungeon Defenders: Awakened is clearly a remake of the original 2010 game.

That’s not necessarily a bad thing, as the original Dungeon Defenders effectively combined tower defense gameplay with co-op action. The formula remains as fun as it was a decade ago, though it’s disappointing to see so little improvement or changes.

My tolerance for the horror genre increases as I grow older and fears of demons and monsters are replaced by bill payments and my family’s safety. I’m also increasingly fond of a good horror adventure –  exploring classic horror tropes and letting players act as the non-stupid investigators rather than hapless teens (of course if you want to role-play hapless teens – go for it).

The Mansion of Duke Brago is a classic haunted house, with effective environmental storytelling and a well-constructed dungeon crawl, for levels 7-8.

The Garradrugh is a new character class inspired by Celtic culture, specifically nature worship. Mechanically it’s a Fighter with nature-themed abilities, including a special bond with a sentient nature spirit that can take different forms depending on your chosen subclass.
