Let’s Play – XCOM 2: War of the Chosen Episode 02: New Beginnings

So a funny thing happened on the way to my XCOM 2: War of the Chosen Let’s Play – I realized I started the wrong damn game. We caught it around the 30 minute mark in this episode. Fast-forward to 45 minutes when I finally start War of the Chosen, instead of vanilla XCOM 2. Whoops!

Gaming Backlog Final Thoughts – Darkest Dungeon

An excellent, unique 2D tactical dungeon crawler severely hampered by late-game pacing.

Adventuring through my backlog of games, one game at a time.

Developer: Red Hook Studios
Publisher: Merge Games
Release Date: August 19, 2016
Played On: PC

I live streamed my entire play through of Darkest Dungeon!

There’s a lot to like about Darkest Dungeon. The XCOM-like heroes who are both crucial and disposable. The large variety of character classes and build styles. The synergy between classes and skills, and the rewarding knowledge of enemies and lairs. And the way the art, music, narration, and difficulty all tie into the richly immersive eldritch horror theme.

I should have fallen in love and never looked back, but the tactical dungeon crawler began giving off a foul stench as it tried to last long past its expiration date, all but ruining the entire experience.

Let’s Play – Darkest Dungeon Episode 18: The Shuffling Horror

I reach the end of my patience with Darkest Dungeon, and head into the titular final dungeon – or at least my first attempt at it. Things go predictably badly.

Let’s Play – Darkest Dungeon Episode 17: Abandon All Hope

The difficulty level has resurfaced with a vengeance. I tackle a level 3 boss run, leaving much of my party stressed out – nearly killing one from stress. Then I attempt a Long level 5 quest and, well, it doesn’t go very well.

Let’s Play – Darkest Dungeon Episode 16: Champion Quest Success!

Embarked on my first Level 5 Champion Quests since that ill-fated attempt several episodes ago. This time with a full party of level 6 adventurers and fully upgraded level 5 equipment, things went much more smoothly.
I only struggled in the Ruins due to not having nearly enough food or torches, while the Cove got a little dicey and stressful at the very end as one of my veterans hit Death’s Door. But we survived both runs and got a decent loot haul.
Although I still have several level 3 bosses to go, perhaps I’m nearing the point of tackling the titular level 6 darkest dungeon?
