From guest GM Chris comes our playthrough of the Alien RPG adventure, “Destroyer of Worlds.”
Starring:
Captain Silva
Private Dante
Sergeant Mason
Officer Chaplain
Death Counter: 0
While Captain Silva and Dante deal with the sudden adult xenomorph drone in the cells of the police station, Chaplain and Mason arrive at the hospital with corporate boss Jennifer Wilson (whom we totally missed is one of the player’s characters from our last Alien RPG campaign – nice!)
The hospital is as empty as most of the town, with a nervous receptionist as some marines walk in. Things aren’t going well with the patient, Cravahlo, one of the soldiers we’re looking for.
Chaplain suggests that Miss Wilson remain by the main entrance while he and Dante go in to see what’s going on. They have medical training after all.
The doctor outside the room is frantic, telling the marines to stay away, having even drawn a sidearm from the patient’s discarded clothes.
Mason and Chaplain talk him down, and learn that the man is infected with some kind of bio-organism, with a parasite growing inside. It’s growing too large too quickly, and even as they speak, the man’s chest begins to convulse.
Mason hands Chaplain an incendiary grenade.
Chaplain quickly enters the patient’s room and barricades the door as the chestburster does its thing, ripping out of the doomed marine and attacking Chaplain with its razor-sharp tail.
Chaplain is only armed with a scalpel knife, but the android quickly plunges it into the creature’s skull, receiving a splash of acidic blood.
The android is wounded, but operational, as Mason shoots out the glass window and dramatically enters, worried about her friend.
Back at the police station, the more adult xenomorph drone charges at Dante, but then stop short. it seems to sniff at her, then turn its attention toward the poor Sheriff. It hisses and the sheriff falls down and scrambles backward, automatically closing the cell block door.
With the door closed, the creature turns back toward Silva, still in the cell, and charges.
Silver kicks out at the beast and slams the door shut, keeping the powerful bars between them.
The drone won’t be deterred, and begins bashing its own head on the bars, its acid blood beginning to eat away at the metal. The act is terrifying, and adds additional stress levels to the captain.
Dante grabs the keypad from the sheriff, yells at the other soldiers from Wilson’s crew, and aims her gun at the drone, drawing its attention.
The drone absorbs the damage, but it does turn its attention back into the main lobby. Once again it ignores Dante, but gleefully rips apart the two corporate security soldiers, who have attempted to stow their guns and equipped stunning prods — presumably on orders to take it alive.
Fuck that!
At the hospital, Miss Wilson arrives, telling her security officers to bag the creature and take it. Chaplain uncharacteristically refuses, privately telling Mason that this whole area must be purified, and that the creature is far too dangerous.
Mason agrees. Chaplain drops the incendiary grenade in the room, and the pair grab Wilson and run out, not looking back at the explosion because it’s way cooler that way.
Wilson is more annoyed than upset, and the group agree to leave the hospital as they check in with Silva and the others. And all they hear is screaming and gunfire.
Dante runs to a far corner, auto-closing the cell block door again, and equips her RPG. The shot misses. Probably for the best, as Silva has just finished hacking the door to re-open it, coming face-to-face with the glistening ebony creature.
In a heart-pounding moment, the creature hisses at Silva, sending the stressed-out Captain scurrying back into the cell — and probably saving her life.
Dante fires again, this time hitting the mark. The creature explodes in an uproar of alien viscera and acid.
Would she have still fired if she knew Sliva was there? Could Silva have been torn apart by the drone? Why did the creature not attack Dante?
So many intriguing questions!
As the hospital team leaves, Wilson sends one crew member back inside to “clean things up.” Silva radios for everyone to group up — someone’s got some real explainin’ to do!
