After the harrowing battle with a horde of plant-zombies, the party continued following their captured goblin guide Yokka toward his “Iron God.” As they suspected, the thing the goblins were worshiping was a deactivated Shield Guardian – most likely the one Wakanga had told them about. Curiously, it was shaped like a tortle.

The construct was surrounded by three separate tribes: the goblins, the grungs, and some strange plant-fungus creatures the party had never seen before. All three regarded them warily but made no hostile actions. This was sacred ground.

Even a hostile random encounter needn’t be an instant fight. Sneaking or persuading should always be reasonable options, depending on the foes. But what trumps everything is the character’s personalities.

I was imminently please when, upon reaching  a horde of zombies that the party could’ve easily sneaked through, our undead-hating druid shapeshifted into a bear and charged them. What followed was an epic battle that lasted nearly the entire session.

Long resting inside the shrine of Man and Crocodile allowed the sneaky goblins who had been spying on the party to set up an ambush. When the party exited, Yokka and nearly a dozen goblins in wooden masks demanded they hand over the treasure for their “Iron God.” Azaka and the canoes were gone, and Inete was held at sword point.

Roll20 Review- Guildmasters’ Guide to Ravnica

The arcane-punk urban world of Magic: The Gathering’s Ravnica gets an official fifth edition conversion with new races, subclasses, backgrounds, and a 1st-level adventure.

A press review copy of the module was provided. Read more Roll20 Reviews and watch the video reviews on my YouTube channel.

roll20 reviewMy history with Magic: The Gathering is ancient to say the least. I was there on the front lines when it launched in the early 90s, obsessing over booster packs and deck builds, and playing it in between band practice in middle school. By high school its popularity with my friends and I had worn out a bit, though I still dabbled occasionally.

Fast forward about two decades and Magic is still riding high while other big collectible card games have come and gone. Despite both D&D and M:TG being owned by the same company, it’s taken until recently to get official crossover content. Gulidmasters’ Guide to Ravnica represents the first print book that uses lore, creatures, and races from the card game and converts them to Dungeons & Dragons Fifth Edition.

The Roll20 module includes a first level adventure, the full compendium of lore, races, and creatures, and a bonus character art pack. The guild-focused content is thorough and interesting, with plenty of options for players and ideas for DM’s wanting to run an adventure in this arcane-punk city.

MAJOR SPOILERS – DM’s only!

Tomb of Annihilation Session 12 Recap

We delve into the deathtrap dungeon and gauntlet of terror that is the House of Man and Crocodile shrine.

The ancient shrine at Camp Righteous serves as a deliciously painful appetizer for the horrors that await in Chult. It’s a miniaturized deathtrap dungeon; a veritable gauntlet of traps that would make even Indiana Jones take pause, with a supernatural gimmick that’s not terribly obvious.

But what self-respecting adventurer can resist the call of ancient tombs and forgotten treasures?
