From guest GM Chris comes our playthrough of the Alien RPG adventure, “Destroyer of Worlds.”
Starring:
Captain Silva
Private Dante
Sergeant Iona
Private Zmijewski
Death Counter: 2
As the crew stares out at the smoking ruin that was their android Chaplain, they anxiously discuss the Draconis-26 that had spread around the colony.
Wilson doesn’t have any easy answers — they were probably all infected now, and capable of transforming into terrifying monsters. Their only chance is to get off the planet. That means Fort Nebraska, where the concentration of the infection was heaviest.
On the plus side, they still have a tank. Its weapons were inoperable (of course), but at least it provides a sense of security as it rolls down the street, passing ghoulish creatures munching on corpses, and a field of frozen, mutated bodies, their faces twisted in agony.
The marines had a chance to heal their wounds, but their mental fatigue was nearly at critical levels.
They soon reach the gates of Fort Nebraska, where they watch a monstrous figure approach, only to get cut down by the still operational sentry turrets.
Wilson checks her tablet and confirms the worst — the turrets are functioning, but no longer registering friend from foe. They’ll eliminate anything that approaches.
The marines discuss their options.
Meanwhile, Captain Silva is hyper aware that the civilians they rescued earlier are less hearty, and received a nastier dose of Draconis-26. Fei-2 informs him that two of the civilians are coming down with flu-like symptoms — the initial signs that a monster-birth isn’t far away.
It’s an agonizing decision, but one the Captain can no longer procrastinate. She banishes them from the group, then orders Hammer to gun them down.
The cold-blooded execution puts everyone on edge, and the civilians notably try to hide any further illness, despite the harsh, cold weather.
Dante fires her RPG at the central turret, connecting and damaging it, and Iona takes out another with the grenade launcher.
Silva orders the tank crew to slowly approach while he and Dante use it for cover to reach the gates.
The armor takes a pounding, but the crew make it across.
Never good with locks, however, she orders the tank to ram the gates. Ramming speed!
When the tank connects, it bends the gates open, enough to allow a person through.
However, screams erupt via the radio from the tank crew. Popping out of the top is a monstrous Private Renner. One of them has succumbed to Draconis-26, and killed the others!
Silva and Iona fire at it as the creature leaps down, tackles Dante, and vomits black bile all over her. Ugh!
Dante responds by placing her pistol under its monstrous head and sending a bullet through its brain, destroying the Anathema monster.
Dante appears fine, or as fine as we can be at this point, and the marines and civilians make it through the gate, less the poor tank crew.
Like the colony, Fort Nebraska has sustained heavy damage from the U.P.P.’s bombardment, leaving much of it a smoking ruin. The only structure left unscathed is the North Bastion, which houses the space elevator that reaches up out of the atmosphere — the way out.
Unfortunately, the marines will need to restart the power, and the Fort’s AI Apollo, in order to access it.
Silva leaves Hammer and the civilians behind in the staging grounds, partly as a guard against anything entering the Fort, and partly to keep the civilians away from any further dangers.
Silva also orders the trigger-happy marine to execute any civilians who fall victim to Draconis-26. He’s the right man for the job!
The rest of the marines, Silva, Dante, Iona, Zmijewski, Wright, and the increasingly helpful android Fei-2, enter the North Bastion on the west side.
They’re greeted with organic, pulsating flesh on the walls, and people, some dead and some alive, strung up and cocooned in the same black resin.
Welcome to hell.
