From guest GM Chris comes our playthrough of the Alien RPG adventure, “Destroyer of Worlds.”
Starring:
Captain Silva
Private Dante
Sergeant Iona
Private Zmijewski
Death Counter: 2
Thanks to the calming drugs, Dante and Zmijewski keep a cool head when the large alien hisses and begins rapidy climbing up the elevator shaft (well, Zmijewski screams and curses, but that’s calming for him).
Their incinerators connect, but the xenomorph’s armor plating almost completely shrugs off the flames. It leaps over their heads to land in the middle of the group, and uses its tail to slam everyone to the ground.
The dangerously stressed-out Captain shocks everyone by physically tackling the creature. Iona freaks out, Dante tries a pistol shot (and its armor once again absorbs the blow), and Sliva yells for Zmijewski to toss it back down the shaft.
The marine complies, and the two succeed at yeeting the monster down the two-story pit. It crashes to the bottom, spraying acid everywhere.
Unfortunately, it’s still alive, and begins its ascent again.
The monster makes it to the top in the blink of an eye, and once again leaps over everyone for a tail swipe (poor GM rolls the exact same attack).
This time, Iona is able to shoot it. The high-damage blast finishes off the creature, but its acid blood sprays onto Dante and Zjimewski. Zjimewski’s armor melts away, but prevents further damage.
Dante is not so lucky. The acid spray washes over her head, and she crumples to the ground, dead.
Death Counter: 2 -> 3
(The player rolled a 62 on the d66 critical injury table, instant death. Wow).
Adding insult to critical injury, the marine’s body convulses, and a damn chestburster alien pops out, then scurries away. Dante had even more secrets!
Instead of feeling the least bit guilty, Iona tries to rifle through her body to find the calming drugs she had taken. He looks incredibly sick, and Silva worries that the Draconis-26 is nearing completion.
The two marines have a brief fight as Iona tries to descend down the shaft without a hazmat suit, thinking the radiation will cure his sickness.
Then he panics and runs outside, where Sgt. Hammer nearly guns him down.
Finally Silva restores order, and Iona comes back inside and puts on the suit, along with Silva and Zjimewski. The three of them will descend down the elevator, and use the hole from the acid blood to reach sublevel 2.
When one door closes…
Dante’s player takes over as Wright, whose alien tampering is not-so-secret. Wilson suggests they split up, and the she, Wright, and Hammer return to the access ladder to the north and ascend to level 2, and the APOLLO mainframe.
When (if) the power is restored, the team will need to make sure the AI is working to get access to the space elevator.
Hammer drops off the few surviving civilians into an empty office room, and closes the door.
I’m sure we’ll be back for them…
Team Hazmat descends down the elevator shaft. Despite their suits, the radiation here is off the charts. They’re accompanied by Fei-2. As an android she’s unaffected by the radiation. The human members start making radiation rolls.
The doors to the armory are shut. Zjimewski suggests getting in there for munitions, and nukes, to blow this whole place to hell. Silva agrees, once they get the power restored.
They travel down a long, ominous hallway covered in the organic black resin. A room labeled maintence pits is just before the reactor, and it’s covered in over a dozen bodies — incubators.
Last time, Dante shot one in the head, and the chestbursters all did their thing. It was a mess.
This time, the team tries a stealthier approach.
They quietly make their way through the room. Halfway through, a full-grown adult alien slips inside, carrying another body to be strung up. But the creature doesn’t notice them, and the marines continue to the reactor.
The reactor is a cavernous room with a glass donut on the bottom and a gnarly mechanical cylinder in the middle.
There’s no aliens in here, so the team breathes a little easier. Thankfully Zjimewski has some mechanical skills, and gets to work on the repair.
The other team reaches the ladder without incident, and finds level 2 virtually untouched by the monsters.
They easily reach the mainframe room, and are startled to find an android woman, seemingly catatonic but attached to the computer.
Around the same time, Fei-2 suddenly walks off the reactor floor. Iona follows her, even grabbing her, and she admits that she’s no longer in control of her motor functions!
The reactor dramatically starts back up, electrified energy flowing around the glass donut, lighting up the dozens of moving alien shapes on the ceiling. Crap!
At the same time, the android woman, Jaell, flicks her eyes open. She’s annoyed at her plans being foiled, and moves to snatch the gun from Wright’s hands. Crap!
The power is restored, but the team’s got more problems than ever!
