Death Counter: 2

After battling the surprisingly easy four-armed gargoyle, the party have two unmarked doors to choose from. Naturally, they open both at the same time!

Moxxi’s door to the east opens to a small room that looks empty. Montana’s southern door reveals an equally small room, but at least there’s another door in the opposite room.

The party dutifully shuffles forward, not knowing the gauntlet of pain that awaits them.

Montana opens another door as the party begins filing into the small rooms, only to be perforated by a hail of arrows from multiple directions! The d10 damage is more annoying than awful for level 10, but the party soon realizes this arrow trap is nothing if not consistent.

They make the mistake of pausing at the third door to try and find the arrow trap, only for the arrows to trigger again! They’re not door-based, they’re time-based!

The speedy music kicks in and the team begins throwing open doors and hurtling through rooms and arrow-hails, until they arrive… in the same room they started in?

Damn you, Acererak!

After some grumbling, Moxxi realizes that perhaps his door was the right path after all. Ms. Plissken inspects the wall and sure enough, a secret door is found.

Unfortunately, so are the arrow traps!

Another fast-paced gauntlet awaits our heroes, and this time they must stop and find each secret door before they can proceed to the next room.

Montana and Ms. Plissken are adept at finding the doors, while Jerry is hilariously lost and confused the entire time (too many arrows to the head).

tomb of horrors session 3

Finally, after a dozen or so arrow-attacks, the bloodied party spills out into the second great hallway. The Hallway is lined with large paintings with colorful spheres. Two doors lie to the west.

Snigbat rides down the length of the hallway, finding another colorful waterfall of vapors at the southern end. Though he wasn’t around for the first one, he wisely leaves it alone to report his findings.

Ms. Plissken inspects the vapors while Moxxi Floxxi’s Son goes to open one of the doors, only to get an arrow in the gut.

At this point we’re realizing that every obvious thing, whether chest or door, is a cruel trap. The correct path (which is also filled with traps) is always hidden.

Randomly, Snigbat decides to touch a painting. Remembering Acererak’s message from the first hallway, he reaches for one with a black sphere (something something night’s color). His arm goes through!

The entire painting is illusory, and beyond lies a dark tunnel. Snigbat calls for the others, and they gather to follow, leaving the other potential routes for now.

The tunnel is dark and cramped for all but Snigbat and Jerry, though Snigbat is forced to dismount his boar.

The tunnel leads to a dark slide, where the party mostly show off some great DEX saves (and Jerry can simply float down).

After some more crawling, the tunnel ends in a wall. Ms. Plissken awkwardly crawls forward to inspect it, finding another secret door, and the party emerges into a large, church-like room with rows of benches. On the far side lies an empty wooden chair.

Something tells me it’s probably trapped.
