The battle at Tentrix’s Floating Lair rages on!
Surrounded by enemies and nearly out of spell slots, Savra pulls out her wand of wonder and hopes for the best on that d100 table.
She summons an elephant!
The confused creature stomps one of the pirates to death before rushing inside the courtyard, where Gotwald continues to make his way north, shrugging off numerous javelins, crossbow bolts, lightning bolts, and the magical water jet of the apologetic marid.
Torrel follows the pirate bard up the stairs of the bar, only to get face to face with a nasty orc swinging a greataxe, forcing him back down. The kenku warlock is a one-man army thanks to Bigby’s hand tentacle helping clear out the enemies of the Jolly Roger tavern.
But the party is still woefully outnumbered — and they haven’t even seen Tentrix.
Then, things get really crazy.
The party’s ship, which they left behind in the care of their NPC allies, comes surging forward, crashing into the side of the floating lair. The desperate destruction kills several pirates, giving Savra a chance to scramble away as others are knocked down.
The two tritons and Borgas leap down from the ship and help defeat the enemies that had surround the lizard wizard, and Savra runs inside the courtyard.
Unfortunately, the crash also freaks out the elephant who rushes in a random direction. Savra is unable to leap away in time, and gets crushed herself, knocking her unconscious! Thankfully one of the tritons is there to revive her.
Gotwald convinces the marid, who says his name is Klaptikos, to target the elephant instead of him. One nat 20 charisma roll later and the marid agrees, blasting the poor elephant, who continues a rampage over several pirates.
Gotwald makes it into the tavern to help Torrel take out the remaining enemies. Even the veteran orc bartender decides to retreat after going only two rounds with the mighty, enlarged minotaur.
Savra continues to fire off her wand of wonder, summoning a rat on top of the marid (and freaking the poor genie out), then nailing Captain Scummer and several other enemies with the slow spell. Dang!
It’s great timing, as the slaad pirate lord had resumed hurling motes of fire from the second story window, as Gotwald and Torrel finally make it upstairs.
Mac finally returns after taking out several pirate enemies (and the merronoloth) off-screen. He climbs down to the second story to start slashing at Scummer in the window.
Gotwald is determined to reach Tentrix, and the marid casually mentioned the Sea King resides in the ship to the northeast, and the quickest path is by going upstairs. Hello, Mac!
But there are still several enemies in their path, including the fire-hurling slaad lord.
On the other hand, the party has renewed vigor thanks to the arrival of their allies, even if they had to destroy their ship to make it here — and warn that the other pirate ships in the bay are on their way, including a particularly pissed off frost giant.
