Cerberus’ Lair: Torkhund’s Forge sounds like the name of an awesome underground dungeon crawl, but it’s actually a compendium of 100 magic items.

Kethra, level 13 half-elf Assassin Rogue

Descending another staircase, we saw a pair of gigantic lion-like creatures with silver horns, radiating with celestial energy, a deva held a spectral axe nearby. “Come, children of another place, bow your heads before me, I wish your deaths to be as merciful and painless as possible.”

“Thanks!” said TIM.

“That’s bullshit,” I muttered. Turning to Scarlet I whispered, “How pissed would you be if I rained hellfire on these creatures?”

Naturally, Scarlet looked taken aback. “No! We do not rain hellfire on angelic beings. I’m just going to go talk to them-“

She strode forward. Without a word, Kethra darted out and tripped her, sending the heavily armored paladin crashing to the floor.

I begin harnessing the demonic energy in my body, my hands glowing hot as a ball of fire begins to form. My demonic heritage becomes unmistakable, skin reddening, horns itching, eyes glowing.

To their credit, my newfound party members only nod in affirmation as I hurl a fireball into the celestial creatures.

The fire explodes into the creatures, flames licking at their bodies. “Perhaps not as innocent as I imagined. No mercy for you then.”

Trap-filled mega dungeons were all the rage in older editions of DnD, from the Tomb of Horrors to the Temple of Elemental Evil. Most recently we have the Tomb of the Nine Gods from Tomb of Annihilation, and all twenty levels of Undermountain from Dungeon of the Mad Mage.

The Great Trial attempts to create another classic mega-dungeon filled with pit traps, illusions, monsters, and an entire jungle for level seven parties.

The Day the Sky Shattered is a single dungeon lair adventure designed for fourth level parties. What begins as a routine hunt for a kobold lair reveals a much larger, more ancient Netherese crypt with automated defenses, a thrilling escape, and a gauntlet of traps and clues that would make even Indiana Jones blanch.

The angel had fallen, but the growing mass of tentacles remained. They try to grab us. Gillian summons a cloud of daggers, while Kethra severs a tentacle that was wrapped around Scarlet.

But the tentacles were oblivious, and unending.

I recall the message from the bellboy. Something about speaking with the tentacles?

“Which one of you tentacles can speak the common tongue?” I call out.

I receive curious looks from my new party members. But in response, several tentacles dive straight toward me. Taking a chance, I let them envelop my legs.

As soon as two tentacles wrap around me, I hear a calm, slow voice in my head.

“Hello there. Can you ask your friends to stop hurting me?”

Though we’ve yet to have an official fey-themed campaign adventure in Dungeons & Dragons Fifth Edition, the DMs Guild has been churning out plenty of quality material that explores the realms of the fey.

Through the Veil: Tales of the Feywild is an impressive collection of ten mini-adventures that use the fey-folk, the Feywild, and its many classic themes and elements.

I always thought the Paladin or knight archetype was pretty boring, but the D&D 5e Paladin is undeniably impressive, with great spells, supportive auras, divine smites, and some of the best subclasses in the Player’s Handbook.

But we can always use more! The Paladin Compendium includes 25 (!) new Paladin Oath subclasses, each based around one of the gods or goddesses of the Forgotten Realms pantheon.

Scarlet struggled within the tightening grip of the gigantic, spectral hand. She’d attempted to knock on a door, only for the door to respond by grabbing her. TIM and Scarlet tried to dispel the magical ward, unsuccessfully.

Sometimes the simplest solution is the best. After watching Styx nearly yank her hair out with his laughably poor strength, I braced myself against the wall and shoved against the fingers. Gillian ran over, grabbed the heavily armored paladin and yanked, pulling her free.

“Maybe next time we look twice before we knock, yes?” I couldn’t help but glower at the paladin’s heedless, optimistic attitude. How has she survived this long? “By the way,” I added,” there’s an angelic being in the next room, fighting some tentacles-“

“Angelic!?” Scarlet cried. Before I could finish she ran through the shards of the nearby broken door, crying out in a Celestial language, presumably praising the damn thing.

Through the doorway we could see the statuesque winged man turn to her, tears in his eyes. “Oh, faithful child,” he said, “I am so sorry. I had hoped only evil would be in this tower. That would have made things so much simpler. By the order of Rahmael, commander of the incursion of this plane, all creatures in this place must be destroyed.”

The angel tucked in his wings, and hurtled toward us.

After an odd left-turn into cyberpunk in the previous verse, the fourth chapter of The Heir of Orcus adventurer’s league campaign is a return to form – specifically the madness-inducing form of Cthulhu and his terrifying minions.

The Heir of Orcus: Verse 4 is designed for 8th level parties, featuring a well-designed dungeon crawl and two excellent side quests.
