Session 29

Starring
Cere, level 11 dwarf Cleric of the Light Domain
Darryl, level 11 human Berserker Barbarian
Ellowyn, level 11 kender Bard College of Lore
Kazra, level 11 human Champion Fighter/Paladin Oath of Devotion
Korl, level 11 dwarf Bard College of Dance

From Chemosh’s shrine, the party heads into the eastern rooms, where they face a statue that forces them to kneel in respect of the dead.

Kazra stands up as soon as she is able and opens a nearby door, finding Jentida there, looking solemnly over a stone slab. Bones are scattered around the room, while a large mirror hangs overhead, facing the slab.

Kazra helps pick up the bones, though she needs Cere’s help to rearrange them to form a skeleton. As the last piece fits into place, the mirror above swirls and glows, forming the image of Tenadria — Jentida’s sister!

The ghostly elves share a tearful reunion. Tenadria was part of a diplomatic delegation to Onyari that ended badly, and Jentida blames herself for not protecting her.

They thank the party profusely for bringing them back together.

Tenadria reveals a relic that may help them with Lord Soth — the Mirror of Reflected Past. They brought it from Silvanost in the hopes to use it on the Kingpriest, but he refused to ever look at it, and had the diplomats killed and interred. She believes it remains somewhere within the sublevels of the temple.

Kazra places Jentida’s sword on the skeleton in respect, and the pair says their goodbyes before fading away.

The party briefly explores the other crypts, with Ellowyn stumbling on a black pudding. Its acid body and attack proves nasty for Kazra and Ellowyn, but the ooze goes down swiftly, and Korl repairs their gear.

They return to the altar room and head up the stairs.

Still within the sublevels, the corridor is guarded by a pair of skeletal knights. However, the knights don’t attack; the party recalls Chemosh telling them to get out and not return.

The corridor leads down a hallway to the north, with multiple doors around them.

Korl activates his tremorsense, clocking creatures in each of these rooms, including a single creature to the south.

The curious kender opens the door, seeing piles of rubble, and cautiously steps through it.

Buried within is an open coffin with a kender inside. This kender opens her eyes, sits up, and yells, ‘boo!,’ revealing a mouthful of fangs.

Instead of attacking, however, the kender vampire laughs and smiles. She’s been stuck in here for a long time, and only recently escaped when the temple began flying.

Her name is Lorry, and she’s no friend to the draconians, aka ‘scaly ones’ and ‘dragon guys.’

Ellowyn makes a friend of her. She trades the stolen cyclops stone for Lorry’s magic ring! She also explains that they’re looking for a certain piece of treasure. Lorry knows there’s lots of treasure in the nearby chamber, and she knows the secret to getting it, if they’ll clear out those dragon guys. They’re jerks who keep trying to attack her.

The party agrees, obviously, and Ellowyn even convinces Lorry to help them!

Darryl isn’t too keen on that, and keeps a close eye on the eccentric vampire.

Kazra throws open the doors to the nearby sanctum, finding a large chamber dominated by a statue of Takhisis as a five-headed dragon, along with smaller statues of other dark gods.

The room is full of half a dozen draconians cleaning the large statue, while dismantling the others, and they all turn to face the door!

Kazra summons her phantom steed, channeling her love of Horsey, and charges into the room, with Darryl hot on her heels.

The bozak draconians cast stinking cloud on the doorway, forcing Cere to stumble and cough, while another enlarges the already big sivak draconian that engages Darryl.

Lorry runs into the room in rat form and helps tear apart the draconians — though never in full view of Ellowyn.

The gold-scaled aurak is forced to teleport away and retreat to the sudden onslaught.

Korl emerges from the stinking cloud into the northern hallway, and decides to throw open another door, which happens to be the room the gold draconian just teleported into! It’s full of more draconians who are grabbing weapons to reinforce the fight.

So Korl casts summon dragon right at the doorway!

The dragon gives the creatures pause, until it starts attacking them! It keeps them at bay, though a second door allows them to slip out and start targeting Korl as well.

Cere emerges to throw down the guardian of faith to help keep them pinned inside.

Meanwhile the others have nearly defeated the draconians in the sanctuary. Though a dying sivak draconian’s fear burst actually freaks Lorry out, and she screams at the nearest creature to run away — which happens to be Kazra.

Kazra takes her horse and flees all the way up the hallway, then turns around to help Korl and Cere.

As the last draconian in the sanctuary falls, Darryl steps outside, and Lorry corners a very wounded Ellowyn. The vampire is concerned for her friend, and tries to charm her. Ellowyn resists (using Countercharm, then Inspiration!) and insists she’s okay — and that friends DON’T BITE EACH OTHER!

Lorry isn’t quite convinced of that, and keeps Ellowyn sitting nearby, for now.

The others clean up the remaining draconian as they emerge from the rooms.

Darryl returns to scoop up Ellowyn and glare at Lorry, while Cere returns with her aura of vitality nearly blinding the kender vampire. She tries to command the cleric to stop the spell, but Cere maintains her concentration.

Ellowyn continues to treat Lorry kindness, however, and she in turn reveals the location of the treasure. The party must move the giant statue to face the southern wall, to reveal the hidden vault.

Next up: The Bastion of Takhisis!
