The kraken, Slarkrethel, continues to resist the Elder Brain’s control, rendering itself incapacitated during most rounds of the epic battle. But Zellix’Phor maintains control of its Legendary Actions, sending out powerful lighting strikes and tentacle swipes.

After a few rounds, the party finishes off the rest of the minions between them and the leviathan.

Mac and Torrel maintain their distance, striking from afar with spells and bows, but Gotwald charges in, alongside Savra in the psionic suit. 

Both become grappled and restrained by the creature’s massive tentacles, though Gotwald avoids a grisly fate down its gullet.

Savra opts to exit the suit, and becomes inspired by the legion of slain minions and triton soldiers around her.

She channels her arcane power into raising all the bodies into an undead army (the DM has her spend half her total spell slots to cast a souped-up animate dead within 1 action).

At the same time, Gotwald clambers aboard the kraken’s head and uses his massive strength to begin physically prying the embedded tentacles of the Elder Brain out of the kraken’s skull. Metal!

His success reduces the number of Legendary Actions hitting the party. By the time the undead army arrives, Zellix’Phor is severely bloodied, and literally hanging on by a thread.

The Elder Brain sends out a warning to all the mind flayers, and retreats into the astral plane, leaving the kraken momentarily stunned.

Everyone begins shouting at once.

Gillian is shocked at the reckless use of animate dead on her triton allies — even if the results were clear.

Kazin wants to finish off Slarkrethel while it’s weakened.

Vestress suggests a different path. With the Colony gone, she can send the party through the Astral Plane to where they went, and finish them off once and for all.

The party has a brief discussion. How much of everything they’ve witnessed was the Kraken Society, versus the Colony of Zellix’Phor? How bad is the kraken, really? Will the mind flayers come back once they’ve healed?

The biggest vote goes to Torrel, a Kraken-worshiping warlock who wants to protect his living god.

When the kraken’s eyes flutter over, he speaks to Torrel, warning him that he’ll need to borrow some energy to restore himself.

Torrel gives himself willingly, and the kraken begins draining his life. 

Concerned, Gotwald stabs Torrel with one of the mutagentic injections from the lab, healing Torrel but also mutating him with brittle bones!

Slarkrethel releases Torrel and the gaping head wound closes. The Kraken promises to empower Torrel far beyond his capabilities in the battle ahead, as Vestress shifts the party into the Astral Plane for a final, final confrontation!
