With the kraken restored and the Colony gone, Vestress opens a portal into the Astral Plane, pinpointing the location of the wounded Elder Brain.

Torrel, having given himself willing to his god while it regenerated, is given enhanced powers: his Tentacle of the Deep becomes twice as big, and twice as powerful. He also gains the kraken’s deadly Lightning Strike ability, as well as one use of Legendary Resistance.

Go forth and kick ass, my son!

The party tells a wounded Borgas to remain behind for pretty much the first time ever, putting him in charge of diplomacy between Kazin, Vestress, and Gillian.

They quaff more potions, and step through the portal. Savra’s hoard of animated zombies follow.

They emerge into a purple sea of zero-g. The Astral Plane!

Amidst floating rocks is a pool of briny water, where Zellix’Phor resides, surrounded by the last surviving mind flayers and brain golems, including his fourth and final attendant, Thercereli.

The area is scoured by psychic winds, forcing the entire party to make INT saving throws every round, or suffer madness-like effects or psychic damage. Surprisingly, they make the saves more often than not!

Gotwald is temporarily rooted in place by a Psychic Anchor from the Brain, leaving Mac and Cheese to charge into the fray, while Torrel and Savra keep their distance flinging spells.

Savra tries using her wand of wonder, but after spewing grass, and accidently enlarging the brain (lol), she stows it and brings out her trusty staff of the magi-empowered spells.

As the brain golems and mind flayers charge at them, Torrel summons his empowered tentacle, restraining a brain golem, and begins roasting everyone in sight with lightning blasts — truly an avatar of the kraken-god!

Gotwald and Mac are forced to deal with the minions. Tharcereli poses a powerful threat with his psychic great sword and Battle Master-like abilities, though Savra’s zombie hoard soon sweep over him and another brain golem, and Gotwald and Mac finish him off with little trouble.

Gotwald rebuffs the other mind flayers’ tentacles, grappling them, but they frequently leak raw psychic damage at the Elder Brain’s whim.

Mac is forced to retreat. When Gotwald offers him the last mutagenic healing injection, the Psychic Winds suddenly enrage the beleaguered tortle. He destroys the injector, and attempts to attack Gotwald (missing on all three hits!).

The last minion finally goes down, though not before the brain golem destroys the last of the zombie hoard.

Zellix’Phor uses its tentacles to keep Gotwald at bay, but Savra and Torrel avoid its grasp, and continue to blast it with devastatingly powerful lightning spells. The Elder Brain burns through its remaining Legendary Resistances, and at one point takes over 40 damage from a single blast!

It responds with a nasty mind blast attack, sending out a wave of psychic damage through the entire party. Mac is downed, but soon revived by Gotwald.

Torrel, feeling the righteous fury of the kraken behind him, grabs the brain with the empowered tentacle and obliterates it with a huge lightning strike, defeating the Colony once and for all!

The Zoo Crew quickly retreat back through the portal.

Slarkrethel is pleased with Torrel’s success and fervent loyalty when he was at his weakest. As a reward, he offers the warlock a boon of his choice.

Torrel replies that he wants to continue to be the most faithful servant of the Fathomless.

The Kraken accepts, naming Torrel his new Deep Lord in charge of the entire Kraken Society, and his right-hand tentacle.

He asks what to do with his companions. Torrel explains their faith is not yet there, and they need more time to come around.

It’s a good answer, and once again the kraken accepts Torrel’s wishes, allowing the rest of them to leave his domain, along with Kazin, Borgas, and the tritons.

We’ll see where everyone ends up in our Epilogue & Recap session!
