After staying at the no-longer-haunted elven tower another day, Dalamar studies ley lines and casts rituals to uncover the probable location of the lost city.

That’s the good news. The bad news, is it’s located pretty darn deep into the Wastes, further to the Northwest.

Dalamar would rather stay at the tower for further study and wait for his companions, while the party sets off toward Heart’s Hollow, Rone’s hidden home in the Wastes that’s only a few days travel away. The Kalaman army follows behind.

Rone knows his way around the area, though he wants to make a brief pit stop to his favorite location: a dragonnel nest! The nesting grounds is in the shape of a large, skull-shaped rock, and features over half a dozen of the miniature dragon cousins.

But he didn’t count on the Red Dragon Army being there! A mounted rider harasses the dragons, while ground troops already have two of them captured in weighted nets.

The party is immediately concerned, and Rowan gets the party started with a quick snap of his bow.

The half-dozen draconians and soldiers turn and charge toward the party, leaving Darryl to hold the line against waves of foes. His rage keeps him conscious, though their flaming weapons have him spitting blood.

The others all provide support from a distance. Elyas castes haste on Py, who scrambles up a large boulder, summons an eagle, and shoots arrows into the flying rider, and the soldiers below.

The soldiers are numerous, but the party is far more powerful, and fully rested. The mounted officer on the dragonnel sees the winds shift (and the bodies piling around Darryl), and turns his mount northeast to flee. The party take some potshots, but the officer escapes.

Cere approaches the captured dragonnels and starts to free them. Rone calls out that the creatures are normally peaceful, but they’re certainly not pacifists. The creatures take a few snaps, but otherwise flap away to rejoin the nest.

Rone thanks the party for their help, and worried that the army made it this close to the town.

With the tide incoming, Rone hurriedly leads the party along a winding trail up a mountain, and inside a crater.

Heart’s Hollow is well-hidden inside the crater, where the crash of the sea water falls into the crater itself, and the town is built along the ledges and cliffs inside.

Rone points out the general store, the mage’s library, and the tavern, which is also run by the mayor, Nezrah.

Nezrah is pleased to see Rone back and safe. She’s aware of the Dragon Army, and concerned about the players’ intentions (and their own army nearby). She stresses the town’s neutrality and peacefulness, but she’s no fool, either.

After some discussion, she asks the party if they can check up on a friend of hers, Gresha. The elderly dwarf and gone with her family to explore a recently unearthed cave thought to be the old lair of a dragon. But she’s overdue to return.

Elyas casts sending and sends her a message. The old woman takes a second to realize what’s going on before replying that they made it to the cave, but so did some soldiers. The message gets dramatically cut off when the spell ends, but the party realizes they need to leave sooner rather than later if they want to help.

Looks like any more town interactions will have to wait, as the party heads out toward the old dragon cave.

Next up: Bluemaw Cave!
