Hurrying from Heart’s Hollow, the party follows the directions from Mayor Nezrah, taking a little over a day to travel northwest toward the cave.
The mouth of the cave is lined with mysterious blue crystals. While Elyas goes to investigate, Py attempts to carve a piece with his knife, receiving a shocking jolt of electricity! Elyas confirms these crystals are magical in some way. Best not to touch them!
Korl uses his dwarven stone cunning to sense out movement down a side tunnel, and he and the rangers lead the party to where Grasha’s dwarves have camped out.
After properly introducing themselves, Grasha is pleased to get some help. Although sent here to check out the location for secrets and treasures, Grasha hopes to turn this cave into a proper dwarven home for her kin. But then the soldiers showed up. The dwarves have been hiding, hoping they’ll move on soon enough.
But one of the dwarves comes running, and says that the two youngest members of the family snuck off to scout the soldiers. Grasha asks the party to keep an eye out for them as they head deeper into the cave.

The crystals continue to grow in frequent clusters, lining the walls and ceilings of the cavern. The party does their best to avoid touching them. They eventually spot blood on the ground, and follow the trail to the bodies of two dwarves. They rush up to check on them, and one of the bodies stirs, sits up, and screams to get away — they’re in the walls!
A horde of gricks descends on the party, using their serpentine shapes and stealth to ambush them with their grappling tentacles and sharp beaks.
At the same time, Elyas discovers the crystals also respond to magic, reaching out and zapping anyone who casts a spell — ouch!
The party does their best in reviving and protecting the dwarf, Yula, first with Rowan’s healing, and then with Elyas battle medic skills. Yula is despondent over the loss of his brother, however, whose bloody corpse lies still on the ground.
After several grueling rounds, the party successfully fends off the nasty gricks. But their own wounds are deep, and they decide to pull back to Grasha, taking the dwarves with them.
Grasha is angry about the death, but thankful for the party’s actions. Yula, along with Korl’s tremorsense, were able to confirm the soldiers were nearby to where they fought the gricks, down a series of cliffs.
After a short rest, the party borrows climbing gear from the dwarves and heads back out, carefully scaling down a series of cliffs, before they open into a vast cavern.
The cavern is open at a small point in the top, letting in the light over a sandy pit. Over half a dozen draconian soldiers sift through the sand, stuffing sacks full of treasure.
One of them brings a rusty, boulder-size object to a hulking, silver-hued draconian. The party recognizes the same shape-shifting sivak who murdered Mayor Raven.

The sivak draconian grabs the object and takes flight using its massive wings, toward the exit in the ceiling. It spots the party on the cliffs and growls for the soldiers to take them out as it leaves.
Korl leaps down and displays a dance of confusion, while Kazra heroically leaps with all her might to throw down with melee attacks (getting feather fall‘d from Korl, who didn’t even use it on himself!).
There are no blue crystals here, so Elyas can use his spellcasting as much as he wants. But that’s also true of some new spellcasting draconians, who cast a stinking cloud on the cliffs, forcing the party to abandon their starting position and move deeper inside.
As the draconians clash with the party, a rumbling is heard. From deep inside the sandy pit, more gricks emerge, including a large grick ancient!
Thankfully, the gricks aren’t exactly allies of the draconians, either. They grapple and attack them, while the bozaks’ fire bolts of lightning at the big one.
The grick ancient nearly takes down Kazra, while Elyas feels the sting of a kapak draconian’s poisoned daggers.
After getting shutdown by paralyzing daggers, Elyas has his revenge by casting banishment on the grick ancient, sending the boss monster away to another plane, and allowing the party to clean up the rest of the monsters.
When the draconians and gricks dead (or permanently shunted to another plane of existence), the party helps themselves to the loot. They also get a chance to sift through the sand themselves, coming up with hundreds of gold pieces, platinum pieces, and gems, before returning to Grasha for a much-deserved rest.
Next up: Return to Heart’s Hollow!
