With Radiant light pouring out of Scarlet, she swings her sword at the angel, his own light fading. He grimaces as the sword strikes into his chest, and for the first time he looks sad and resigned.
“We just wanted something better for us,” he intones, the light rapidly fading from his sagging body.
“That’s your problem,” Scarlet replies, her tone as even-keeled as always. “Gods don’t just think of themselves. You were never going to create anything other than chaos and ruin. Now it is your time to return to the light. May the gods have mercy on you.”
She pulls the sword free and the once grand celestial being slumps over, his body now floating in the void surrounding us.

Flame shot out of the Hellfire crossbow, engulfing the fleshy creatures. They burn, but continue advancing on Scarlet, striking out with tendrils and claws of sinew.
I grunt, and follow up with a volley of fire bolts, striking into multiple creatures. One of them explodes, but before I can even smile, the smaller fleshy bits begin to reform into single-tentacle creatures.
“Not helping!” Scarlet yells, as she brings down another column of holy fire. We weren’t going to last much longer without the rest of the team.

“Here’s here,” Orner yelled. “I didn’t expect him so soon, we’ll have to hurry. Quickly, into the tower!”
The entire world rumbles as what looks like an entire mountain appears un the distance. Great claws the size of ancient trees churn the ground. An echoing roar chills us to the bone as we strap ourselves into the tower.
We feel the tower shift as Orner points it at the impossibly large beast. The World Ender.
Scarlet nervously calls out, “Anyone not want to do this anymore?”

The portal lies in ruins, the hulking demon dead at our feet. Whatever demons remain in the fortress, their numbers were limited. We cut off the source.
Now it’s simply a matter of killing the leaders and preventing the destruction of this entire world.
Easier said than done. As we follow Kethra out a hidden escape path, images of the demon and angel leaders, Irathon and Rahmael, appear, taunting us with our fruitless victory. They wish to be gods of this world, heedless of its violent destruction.
We ran as the fortress walls began crumbling around us from the destruction of the portal. We held the scroll Rycresh had given us, and within moments the cat appears.
“Is it done?” Rycresh asked anxiously.
“What kind of question is that,” Kethra screamed. “Get us out of here!”
“Good, we got places to be!” Black smoke surrounds us. When it dissipates, it is not the Verdant Spire that greets us, but a vast desert.
“Sorry for not taking you back to safety, but we have to move quickly,” says Rycresh. “I have some bad news: I found the book.”
“Let me guess,” says Scarlet, noting our surroundings. “It’s inside the World-Ender?”

I watch as Kethra creeps along the narrow walkway, illuminated by the flow of lava on either side. The plan is solid: she’ll sneak into the room beyond and lure the demon guards toward the south, while we charge forward and surprise them.
TIM grunts as he continues keeping the curtain of lava parted with his magic. Before the rest of us step through onto the walkway, I see Kethra suddenly stop, raise her bow, and fire. A body hits the floor in the room beyond, followed quickly by cries of alarm.
Styx rushes past her, trying to distract the demons, but they ignore him. A pair of heavily armed and armored demons fly toward us with military-precision and a single-minded purpose, landing beside the rogue and cutting her down with a flurry of sword attacks.
I cry out and raise my crossbows as Scarlet rushes forward, realizing we’re caught on the tiny walkway, surrounded by lava.

The black gates open, and demons pour forth. More than I can count. They scream and charge. Our foolishly brave allies, a motley crew of centaurs, satyrs, and slaad, charge back.
As the two armies slam into each other, we act. Scarlet drinks a potion, her form dissolving into mist. Kethra pops on a ring and disappears. TIM and Gillian nod once at us, assuring they’ll teleport across, as TIM insists on hanging back to help our friends in their time of need.
As for myself, I call upon my shameful demonic heritage to shift my form into that of a demon. A revolting transformation, and starting behind our own forces, I’ll surely be fired upon as I race across the chaos.
I don’t care. This is a target rich environment. I’ve never seen so many demons, and I aim to kill a lot of them before the day is done.

The gigantic, colorful dragon snarls, chanting magic under her breath. I stand firm, still disguised as her master, and foil the spell with my own magic, holding my illusory staff out dramatically.
“You can’t do that, I taught you that spell, Mistrivvin,” I yell in a mocking tone. “You are a petulant child!”
Her face contorts in rage, leaping toward me. In a blink her claws rake my skin and her tail bashes me to the ground. The coppery taste of blood fills my mouth.
I finally let the Creator’s disguise drop from my body as I stand back up, her eyes growing wide with confusion.
Smoke surrounds me as I disappear, materializing on the dragon’s back. I pull out the hellfire crossbow and unload magical bolts into the back of her head.
“You were right. Your master is dead. And we are much worse.”
