With Radiant light pouring out of Scarlet, she swings her sword at the angel, his own light fading. He grimaces as the sword strikes into his chest, and for the first time he looks sad and resigned.

“We just wanted something better for us,” he intones, the light rapidly fading from his sagging body.

“That’s your problem,” Scarlet replies, her tone as even-keeled as always. “Gods don’t just think of themselves. You were never going to create anything other than chaos and ruin. Now it is your time to return to the light. May the gods have mercy on you.”

She pulls the sword free and the once grand celestial being slumps over, his body now floating in the void surrounding us.

From nearby, Irathon screams.

Armed with the Creator’s spellbook, Rycresh was able to send us directly to Irathon and Rahmael, to thwart their destruction of the plane (and possibly all planes). We had only time for a Short Rest, but we did level up to 20 before our final showdown.

We were deposited in a mysterious cave. Our goal was simple: get the Staff of the Creator by any means necessary, and prevent the powerful couple from destroying reality.

The cavern was lined with reflective panes of glass, each showing a different fantastical world, from steampunk cities to fields of unicorns and hellish landscapes.

As we walked, we heard the voice of Irathon, the demon general, reminding us of their desires: to denounce their masters and create a more perfect world in their image. With them reigning as gods, of course. There’s always a catch.

As we reached the end of the hallway, the cave opened into a large chamber filled with more mirrors into worlds. Irathon held the Staff of the Creator, but Rahmael charged us, having been given the powerful Foresight buff from Irathon. Roll for initiative!

As a Solar, Rahmael was a powerful threat, dishing out huge damage with his radiant greatsword, and blasting us with big AOE fire and radiant attacks. Kaelan Misty Step’d away to focus fire on Irathon, who was trying (and failing) to hurl hellfire bolts at us from afar.

Scarlet, Kethra, and Gillian engaged Rahmael, while TIM turned on Anti-Magic Field to negate the pesky Foresight spell. The buff was giving everyone disadvantage, but the Anti-Magic Field also turned off magic items and buffs, stymying our side just as much. Anti-Magic Field is a tricky spell!

Suddenly the Staff activated, and the entire cave melted. We were transported into another world – a blasted hellish landscape that dealt constant fire damage and suppressed radiant damage. Kaelan was in fine spirits, the others not so much. Irathon cast Finger of Death repeatedly, but each time we made the save.

Almost as soon as quickly, the staff whirled again, and we were transported into a realm filled with floating platforms and tentacles. The tentacles reached back to a massive beholder, and we were subjected to eye ray attacks on each turn.

War for the lost plane session 32

At this point TIM attempted to run at Irathon and deactivate the staff (and her spellcasting) using his Anti-Magic Field, but she simply flew away. On the next round he attempted to grapple her, but failed, and finally brought the spell down so he could cast other spells.

The others were still engaged in a heated battle with Rahmael, who gradually began to sag, while Kaelan peppered Irathon with magical bolts, at one point becoming enlarged as we were transported once again to a different realm, this one of a large cosmic bridge surrounded by chaos magic.

The action intensified when the the staff whirled one final time, transporting us into a void between time and space – where apparently all damage was automatically maxed! Suddenly Kethra was dealing 70 damage on a single sneak attack strike. Rahmael didn’t last too long after that, with Scarlet delivering the killing blow, though she dropped down in remorse for striking down a celestial, even a fallen one.

Irathon didn’t last much longer. As we were struck by passing meteors from the void-space, Gillian grabbed one with Animate Objects and slammed it into the demon, obliterating her. The staff went spiraling. TIM was the closest, grabbing it, and received visions of worlds, and a question of intent.

Thankfully TIM asked his Creator what should be done, using his level 20 Improved Divine Intervention. A massive leech appeared and swallowed us all, repairing the broken worlds and depositing us back into the cave in the Lost Plane.

We’d recovered the staff, defeated the zealous demi-gods, restored the plane, and lived to tell about it. Thus the War for the Lost Plane has ended.
