Back at Mr. Trench’s detective agency, the party pools their knowledge, and discusses their plans.
They’ve acquired two employee pass cards, plus an employee outfit and accessories from a reasonable look-alike for Verity, whom they want to accompany them.
Stayzie and Taveen made it to the second day of the Grand Minauros Invitational, which could provide a nice distraction, especially as the final round should draw a crowd.
Trench reconfirms what they’re probably after: a literal soul contract for Verity’s brother, Garrett. Most likely it’s kept in the casino’s vault, which is probably heavily secured. The party isn’t fully aware of where the vault is, though they have some information of the backrooms thanks to Verity’s map.
Trench supplies them with a vial of holy water to nullify the contract, though it’s only enough for one. He also gives them two potions of feather falling, in case they need to make a quicker getaway via the 100-ft waterfall drop.
Elowen can shift into crocodile form and take the bag of holding with their magic earrings, allowing them to smuggle them past the guard.
With plans in place, the party enjoys a long rest, then sets off the next day for the heist.

The party meets with Verity and dresses her up as the the massage therapist Chéri met the day before (and had cast Suggestion on). The tiefling is nervous about returning, seeing as how she was forcibly fired and kicked out, but she desperately wants to save her brother.
Elowen shifts into croc form to enter the river with the bag, while the other five (the party plus Verity) enter the rowboat ride into the cavernous casino.
Inside they make it past the guard, but Quentin is there to greet them. Before he can say a word, Stayzie immediately steps up and does her thing, being a gigantic, gregarious distraction. Even his supernaturally warm, large, and intimidating black dog (hint hint) is mollified by her sheer presence.

While he’s distracted, the others slip to various parts of the casino: Varrow towards the middle lounge (A5) to grab the bag from Elow-odile, Taveen to the tournament area (A9), Verity to the massage parlor (A6), and Chéri to the eastern casino floor (A2).
Quentin is enamored with Stayzie and talks about hiring her for entertainment in his arena. She’s charming and in love with his freaky dog, and the two chat for awhile while she makes her way to join the tournament.
With a nat 20 Sleigh of Hand check, Varrow is able to effortlessly grab the back from Elow-odile, and distribute their magical earrings. However, Chéri gives his earring to Verity to make sure she can remain in contact. The party tells her to stand by, and be ready to cause a distraction if they need her to.
Taveen notices the tournament room is far emptier than before, with only two tables available, with two players left each: Anais, Nightshade, Karn, and Enna from the Zhentarim operatives. He sits at the first table, while Stayzie at the second. They hope to legit win the grand prize, and also provide any distractions as needed.
But, somebody still has to heist, right?
Varrow is eager to sneak into the backrooms, though he catches Arlo, the Zhentarim team leader, talking with Quentin, and the two go into the backrooms. He didn’t catch what they were discussing, but he’d rather not have Quentin back there.
Meanwhile, Chéri, in typical fashion, is going off grid and off plan. He asks Varrow for the bag of holding, which Varrow reluctantly turns over.
He chats up a patron and convinces her (with a 20gp bribe), to flirt with a cashier, while he chats up the other one.
She does so, and he uses the opportunity to cast suggestion on the other cashier, convincing them that the chip he hands over is worth all the money in the vault, and to put the money in the bag.
It’s a robbery!
The spell works, but the poor charmed cashier is aghast when the 1gp chip doesn’t turn up with “all the money in the vault.” They rush off to find a manager, and eventually have to go into the backrooms themselves, perhaps to locate Quentin.
Varrow asks what’s happening, but Chéri simply leaves the bag of holding by the cashier’s stand and waits, claiming it’ll all be worth it.
Poor Varrow is left alone to infiltrate the backrooms. Hopefully Elowen can soon join him (player was MIA this session), and perhaps Chéri’s risky plan can pay off in some way.
