With the casino heist finally complete, the party returns to Trench for a long rest (and a level up!).

Verity and Garret thank the party profusely for their aid, though they have no money to pay them back for their services (and, certainly no job). The party shrugs at that, and ushers them on their way. Oh well!

Trench is more than pleased that they completed the mission without killing anyone (save for a nasty undead naga). He rewards them each with a magic item he specifically picked out, such as Boots of Elvenkind for Varrow, and a Deck of Illusions for Chéri.

They have one more piece of business they need to get to: stopping by Skeemo’s shop to pay him back for Elowen’s resurrection, and get the antidote for Chéri and Taveen.

Unfortunately, when they head to the shop they see a couple of rough gangsters loitering outside, telling them to piss off. After exchanging a few words, Stayzie eventually name-drops Arlo and the Zhentarim. 

But this crew isn’t Zhentarim, in fact they’re direct enemies: the Xanathar’s Thieves Guild! The gangsters pull weapons and shout inside for the others, and the fight is on.

Stayzie opens it up by blinding them with her magical greataxe, while Chéri casts his new stinking cloud spell directly into the shop, through a window.

The spell forces the others inside to spread out and run outside. Thankfully for them there’s a side entrance they can use, and Chéri runs into several more, but luckily (literally, using luck points) keeps concentrating on the spell.

While Taveen helps Stayzie at the main entrance, Varrow ducks around the back of the building, finding window. He quietly unlocks it and peeks inside. 

He sees Skeemo the gnome tied up and gaged in a backroom, while a large bugbear ruffian orders his group to take out these newcomers.

Varrow quietly slips inside and frees Skeemo, gesturing for him to follow out the back.

The gang leader notices his absence, and rushes outside, only to get stabbed and knocked prone by the sneaky rogue.

Back at the entrance, Stayzie and Taveen are collecting bodies while dealing with nasty miniature beholderkin creatures that fire annoying eye rays, while Chéri is somehow still standing from an onslaught of several more gangsters from the side entrance.

And this was supposed to be a simple errand!
