Session 22
Starring
Cere, level 8 dwarf Cleric Domain of Light
Darryl, level 8 human Berserker Barbarian
Ellowyn, level 8 kender Bard College of Lore
Kazra, level 8 human Champion Fighter/Paladin
Rowan, level 8 elf Gloomstalker Ranger/Assassin Rogue
After dealing with the treants, the party enters the waist-deep water leading to the Temple of Paladine. Kazra breaks down the door of the triangular temple, revealing just as much water inside. The entire north wall has crumbled into ruin, but a raised platform leads to an altar, and a beautiful mural depicting metallic dragons.
Korl (not present in this session) doubles over from pain and is looking a bit sickly, though brushes it off with his characteristic attitude.
Kazra leads the party forward, but falls into a pit hidden by the water. It’s more scary than dangerous, like the deep end of a swimming pool.
However, something lurks in the water, and grabs on to the armored warrior. An elemental creautre of pure water, adopting a draconic visage, keeps her under, while other watery shapes beings swirling within the temple.

The water weirds are at the command of the marid, Jamir, whom the treant had warned about. He isn’t interested in talking, but sees the Temple as his home, and the party as intruders.
He blasts them backward with a powerful water jet attack, but Ellowyn fights back by hitting him with dissonant whispers, sending the fearful creature swimming far away.
Kazra tries to get free, only to get pulled back under again, forcing her to action surge to escape a third time. Rowan rushes toward the altar only to fall into another pit, as more water weirds emerge to attack.
Thankfully without the marid there, the party can focus on these annoying creatures, attacking them as they surface. Cere casts aura of vitality to keep everyone healed.
Jamir returns and against blasts everyone with water, and lashes them an aquatic whip, nearly killing Rowan (1 hp!). But the party perserveres and pushes him back, eventually forcing the elemental genie to cast plane shift to escape.

With the area clear, they approach the altar. A light emanates from the altar, growing wider as they approach. After some hesitation, Kazra places the broken lance upon it.
The light turns silvery, and burns away the rust. The lance then vibrates and hovers in place, rebuilding itself, and reforging into a legendary dragonlance once again!
The voice of Paladine, the god of the metallic dragons and the rival of Takhisis, rings out, declaring them the heroes this world needs to fight back against the Dragon Queen’s tyranny, and to use the lance to defeat their greatest threats.
Before it fully dims, the voice detects the slaad tadpole within Korl, having been infected back at Sunward Fortress. The god offers to heal the infected bard, though it will take some sacrifice from the others.
None of the party hesitate; they’re eager to help their friend however they can.
The light flashes and the party feels themselves momentarily weakened and dizzy. Korl is fully restored and healed, while the rest have their maximum hit points permanently reduced by five.
With the dragonlance in hand, the party decides to make their way to the Occupied Mansion by retracing their steps, and avoiding the central floating island.
They see no trace of Hungry, the odd death slaad, as they stealthily make their way across the north side of the lost city.
Night has fully fallen by now, but the party doesn’t want to risk a light source. Ellowyn and Darryl are left blindined, while Kazra still has the magic darkvision from Rowan to help her. As a gloomstalker Ranger, Rowan is in his element!
Rowan spots the same kapak draconian patrol, and advises the others to keep quiet. Unfortunately, Cere isn’t exactly built for stealth, and she trips over a trash can (lol), alerting the enemies to their presence!
The poison dagger-wielding draconians aren’t as nasty as the water weirds, though there are half a dozen of them. Kazra even gets a critical hit with the new dragonlance!
As the party is taking out the draconians, Hungry makes a surprise appearance, ripping the arm off one of them and eating it, before it can dissolve into acid. He thinks they’re rather spicy, yet satisfying.
Rowan is uncomfortable, but the party doesn’t break into hostilities with the creature. Kazra even gives him an awkward hug, which just confuses him.
In the northest quadrant, the party realizes Ellowyn may care about the book-burning giants, and send her to investigate. She casts invisibility, and Hungry does the same, eager to follow.
The kender discovers a pair of cyclops, asleep in an old library, as the last embers of their fire dies down. She finds a few intact ancient books to add to her collection, and spots a multicolored stone disk (rolling on the trinket table) on the larger cyclops that she just has to have.
But, being Ellowyn, she also leaves a note about taking the disk!
She also advises Hungry not to eat these two, and the disappointed slaad leaves.
The hour is incredibly late, and the party returns to Demelin’s to recuperate and level up before exploring the rest of the city.
