On the fourth floor of the tower the party finds another holographic map, this one of the entire city (T6). Magic lights on the walls create the impressive visual, though large sections of the city flicker in and out, as if acknowledging the centuries of ruin.
Kazra smashes one of the lights, and a nearby door opens, revealing a curious draconian!
Turns out, the room next door is being used as a break room for several draconians, who now put down their drinks and pick up their weapons (T7)!

The party quickly fights back, though they’re forced to split their attention when another gold-hued draconian emerges from a different room, firing energy rays (T8).
Py is upset that the once majestic chairs had been destroyed, and the control panels nearby are useless.
Another map in the nornern room reveals the wider Northern Wastes area around the city. The Dragon Army is still buzzing with activity, though the Kalaman army has since retreated and scattered by now.
The party ascends another staircase to reach the fourth floor, a single large room with a raised central area and four consoles, each controlling a different crystal monitor (T9).
It’s here they find Lohezet.
Lohezet is the black-robed mage who helped the Dragon Army locate the Lost City. He’s not necessarily a true believer in Takhisis or her cause, but is obsessed with finding and repowering Onyari.
He calls off his pair of flameskull guards to speak with the party, claiming that he’s as much a victim of the Dragon Army as they are, and that he was forced into their service in order to protect his family.
Ellowyn and Kazra are sympathetic, but when Cere makes it up the stairs, she sees the flameskull and immediately uses turn undead!
That kicks off a brief battle as Rowan gladly peppers the mage with arrows, while he rebukes the ranger with poisonous blasts.
Kazra moves up to back up Rowan, who gets right in the mage’s face, but Ellowyn calls out for calm and manages to end the entire battle with her words (nat 20 on Persuasion!).
The mage agrees that he doesn’t want to fight. He’s not exactly the biggest fan of ‘Glorious’ Belephaion, who resides on the fifth floor, and is growing impatient with Lohezet’s caution about readying the city.
Ellowyn even convinces him to help them battle the Dragon Army leader, though Rowan is fairly certain he’ll turn on them (or save his own skin).

The group reaches the highest level of the tower, the Bridge, where the flying citadel helm resides as a jewel-encrusted chair (T10).
On that chair is a human man wearing crimson robes and a bejeweled crown of Takhisis — Belephaion!
Before him is the gold draconian captain from the mansion, who had previously teleported away after he lost the battle. Belephaion is chastising him for his failures, and now Lohezet’s, for stopping their enemies.
He activates the magic of the helm, and the city begins lurching and tearing free of its earthly bonds.
But, Lohezet was right: the ancient city is still far too damaged. Entire sections are sheared and broken, and the city rises in different rates and levels, tearing everything apart as it tries to obey.
In a shocking twist, Belephaion assumes his true form, that of an adult blue dragon, and kills the groveling draconian, flinging his exploding body at the party!
Roll for intiative!
Undeterred, Kazra launches forward with the dragonlance, nailing Belephaion with a 70+ damage critical hit thanks to an extra divine smite, and the lance’s extra dragon damage. Wow!
The massive hit breaks his concentration on the helm. The dragon roars in rage as he loses control of the city. However, broken pieces continue to rise, and a great cracking sound rings out from the tower itself!
No longer tethered to the chair, Belephaion crashes through a nearby window to take advantage of his cloaked flight, though Ellowyn uses counterspell to keep him visible (the DM forgets to activate Legendary Resistance to counter the counterspells!).
A nasty 50+ damage lighting breath nearly downs half the party, putting Cere on immediate triage mode with aura of vitality.
Py summons his bestial spirit, while Rowan peppers the dragon’s backup draconian guards with arrows.
Lohezet yells and runs into the middle of the room, assessing the citadel helm. There’s no time to attune to it however, and the catastrophic damage to the city is irreversible.
Kazra remains laser-focused on the dragon, wielding the lance with grace and power as if it were an extension of her body.
But, she gets a little too cocky when she leaps on top of the dragon, spurring him to fly out another window, grab her, and drop her!
“Let’s see if your gods grant you wings!”

Out of range of feather fall, the party can do nothing but watch in horror as the wounded warrior falls.
After fending off Py’s summoned eagle (his second cast, after the wolf), Belephaion flies back inside, raking the party with his electrified claws, and downing Cere.
Suddenly, Kazra comes flying in the window riding a dragonnel! With her helmet down and lance gripped tight, she skewers the dragon with a mortal wound, killing Belephaion with an epic comeback!
When she had fallen, she was caught by Rone, who had recently arrived with several dragonnels.
The young scout from Heart’s Hollow had been following the party with the dragonnels, wanting to help. But when they reached the army, he could no longer catch up.
He was magically contacted by Demelin, who told of the party’s location, and that they would probably need help.
When the city began rising and tearing apart, the Dragon Army began scattering and retreating, including the flying patrols, giving Rone the opening to finally catch up, with the best timing ever!
The tower begins lurching as the entire floating island begins to sag. The party quickly scrambles to the dragonnels (grabbing B’s crown and a bag of holding).
But Lohezet refuses to leave. Despite Ellowyn’s pleading, he is completely consumed by grief and delusions believing he can still fix things, and that this city is his legacy.
The rest of the party is more than happy to leave him to his fate, and finally Ellowyn and Kazra board the dragonnels, and fly.
Behind them, Onyari continues its self-destruction. For a brief moment, they spot a lone red-robed figure. Demelin raises a single hand in salute, before she is buried under rubble.
However, one section of the city seems to survive intact. The Temple of Takhisis to the south, which served as the army’s main base of operations in the city, as broken free. Its foundations are made up of dragon bones, and several death dragons swirl around it protectively.
After rising, the flying citadel then changes course, as if piloted. Heading south.
Towards Kalaman.
Next up: Return to Kalaman!
