We discussed using factions in a recent DM Roundtable discussion, and Shadow over Snowhollow would make a great example of using traditional monsters as fleshed-out factions. The tier two adventure involves players in a deadlocked battle between arcane frost giants and necromantic orcs, before taking on (almost) ancient white dragon.

I’m the only one in my family who likes seafood, so on the rare occasion that we get seafood (like my birthday), I tend to order the big sampler with a bit of everything. Candlekeep Mysteries is the sampler of the Sword Coast, bringing over a dozen mini-adventures thematically tied to different books, all of which could be found in the legendary library of the Sword Coast.

“Here’s here,” Orner yelled. “I didn’t expect him so soon, we’ll have to hurry. Quickly, into the tower!”

The entire world rumbles as what looks like an entire mountain appears un the distance. Great claws the size of ancient trees churn the ground. An echoing roar chills us to the bone as we strap ourselves into the tower.

We feel the tower shift as Orner points it at the impossibly large beast. The World Ender.

Scarlet nervously calls out, “Anyone not want to do this anymore?”

Solasta’s dungeon builder is Neverwinter Nights meets Super Mario Maker [PC Gamer]

Read my full article at PC Gamer

You know when a business advertises itself as being the second-best at something, then says, ‘We try harder?’ That’s the position Solasta: Crown of the Magister is in, as the other turn-based RPG based on D&D’s rules currently in Early Access. Developer Tactical Adventures would dearly like its game to emerge from under the shadow of Baldur’s Gate 3, which is why the indie alternative to Larian’s sequel now comes with Dungeon Maker, an in-game editor for crafting dungeons using an interface familiar to longtime PC RPG fans.

The Dungeon Maker lets players easily create their own D&D-based dungeon crawling adventures with a level of detail not seen since the days of Neverwinter Nights.

It doesn’t take a super sleuth to draw at least two conclusions from the title of Fool’s Gold: Mystery in Baldur’s Gate – it’s a mystery-based adventure, and it takes place entirely within the city of Baldur’s Gate.

My last foray into epic levels in D&D (20+) was nearly twenty years ago during Neverwinter Nights‘ second expansion, Hoards of the Underdark, which included fighting an entire dungeon full of beholders and taking on Mephistopheles himself. Legendary Adventures: Epic Play for Fifth Edition is an upcoming supplement that adds epic levels, and equally epic monsters, to D&D Fifth Edition.

Feats are such a ubiquitous part of D&D that’s it’s easy to forget they’re technically a variant rule. There are already plenty of great feats to choose from in officially published books. Feats Don’t Fail Me Now adds over 40 new feats with a much more humorous, and personable, tone.

The portal lies in ruins, the hulking demon dead at our feet. Whatever demons remain in the fortress, their numbers were limited. We cut off the source.

Now it’s simply a matter of killing the leaders and preventing the destruction of this entire world.

Easier said than done. As we follow Kethra out a hidden escape path, images of the demon and angel leaders, Irathon and Rahmael, appear, taunting us with our fruitless victory. They wish to be gods of this world, heedless of its violent destruction.

We ran as the fortress walls began crumbling around us from the destruction of the portal. We held the scroll Rycresh had given us, and within moments the cat appears.

“Is it done?” Rycresh asked anxiously.

“What kind of question is that,” Kethra screamed. “Get us out of here!”

“Good, we got places to be!” Black smoke surrounds us. When it dissipates, it is not the Verdant Spire that greets us, but a vast desert.

“Sorry for not taking you back to safety, but we have to move quickly,” says Rycresh. “I have some bad news: I found the book.”

“Let me guess,” says Scarlet, noting our surroundings. “It’s inside the World-Ender?”

“It’s inside the World-Ender.”

WARNING: Massive spoilers for Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden!

There’s a lot I love about Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden. I chose it as our next live streamed campaign, after all (coming in April). Yet it’s also an adventure that needs a lot of work, and one of those areas is in the final chapter, Doom of Ythryn.

The Ythryn Expanded Towers of Magic Bundle effectively fixes all eight arcane towers that parties will need to visit, expanding, replacing, and enhancing each tower to create far more memorable locations.
