After a short rest, the party tracks down where they lost saw Fray — who had wondered off after the fight with the undead shadows. Fray had been transformed into her Ravenous Wendigo form — the Fraydigo! At the same time, a large wraith materialized out of the wall, the last survivor of the wizards turned cannibals from Ythryn, and the reason for Fray’s untimely transformation.
Roll for initiative!
The Fraydigo uses her surprise round to project the Fear spell, hitting everyone except Vellyne and Edmond.
The spell causes big problems for the party, sending Thimbleweed and Celeste fleeing back up the northern cave (H11), while Edmond and Vellyne strategically retreat toward the east (towards H16 and H22).
Valravn and Lord Marbury are unable to get away when Fraydigo sinks her claws into the flying horse, and the elf is momentarily afflicted by her Ravenous Hunger curse, causing him to attack his beloved mount before loping after the others.
Edmond summons a wolf, whose main job is to retrieve Celeste’s mop and bring it to her. The Fear spell forces you to drop your gear, which bites Thimbleweed a few times with his reduced AC without the shield — especially when that pesky gnoll vampire shows up to attack him while he’s alone!
But Celeste shakes off the fear with Stillness of Mind, and fires her radiant bolts at the ambushing predator. The vampire tries to poison her with a Sickening Gaze, and she shrugs it off. After tearing into Thimbleweed, the vampire retreats back into his mist form.
Meanwhile the wraith finally kills the pegasus, while Fraydigo uses her at-will Mist Step to continue to hunt her former compatriots — especially that pesky green elf. She rips into Vellyne and Valravn (and curses him again!) before Vellyne is able to shut her down with Tasha’s Hideous Laughter.
A Haste’d Edmond runs around the caves to position his arm cannon for a full blast into the wraith and the Fraydigo — despite Vellyne’s protests.
The lightning blast does a ton of damage, but it also jolts the Fraydigo out of her maniacal laughter. Vellyne tries to cast it again, but the cursed barbarian makes the save, focusing her efforts to try and kill Valravn. Shed knows. She remembers.
With the vampire retreated, Celeste and a very wounded Thimbleweed rejoin the main fight, attacking the life draining Dread Wraith, finally destroying it.
When it dies, its shroud dissipates into that of a normal, ghostly man. He looks scared, and darts off toward the southwestern room, where Fray had been transformed (H15).
Valravn, barely clinging to life after the onslaught from the Fraydigo, shakes off the Ravenous Hunger curse and casts Eyebite, targeting Fraydigo with the Unconscious effect, and adding Unsettling Words to make sure it sticks. It does, and the monstrosity slips into a brief coma.
They now have 1 minute to figure out what do with a still quite healthy, and very dangerous Fraydigo!
