Previously on Rime of the Frostmaiden

Starring:
Valravn, level 14 Eladrin Bard of Eloquence
Fray, level 14 Halfling Barbarian of the Beast
Celeste, level 14 Half-orc Sun Soul Monk (played by Fray/Heather)
Edmond, Level 14 Human Alchemist Artificer
Thimbleweed, level 14 Thri-kreen Swarmkeeper Ranger (played by Edmond/Raymond)

Having disrupted the illusory ball in the Spire or Iriolarthas, the annoyed, delusional flying brains turn their ire toward the pesky intruders (Y19b).

The Marshals also realize that the magen servants are, in fact, real and not part of the illusion! The illusion dissipates, revealing an icy, ruined court with plenty of hostile foes: four brains in a jar, three hypnos magen, and four demos magen.

Valravn unleashes a big synaptic static AOE on the battlefield. Feeling emobldened, he hops on Lord Marbury as the pegasus flies to the back and attacks one of the flying brains.

His hubris is repaid when the brain unleashes a mind blast, stunning both of them and sending them crashing to the ground.

Fray begins carving up magen while the brains try to stun the others. Other than Valravn, the rest of the party has great luck with saving throws, rebuffing repeated stunning attempts and casts of hold person.

Edmond casts haste on Thimbleweed, letting the four-armed ranger go to town unleashing charadlyn arrows at the flying brains, before summoning a direwolf out of his bag of tricks.

From an open doorway flies a magen dressed as a bartender (galvan magen). He takes a look around an unleashes a lighting bolt into Valravn and Lord Marbury, nearly downing them both.

Thankfully the rest of the party begins cleaning up. Fray hacks her way toward the galvan magen after sustaining blow after blow, and Thimbleweed gets three of the four brain kills.

Valravn and Fray take most of the damage, and after finding some vintage wine bottles in the bar, they hunker down for a short rest (Y19h).

Rime of the frostmaiden session 87 spire ballroom

Edmond uses his chime of opening to unlock the doors to the council chambers (Y19c), finding a few usable spell scrolls amongst the ruins, as well as the eastern hallway.

Vellyne is delighted to find all the arcane focus staffs and rods in the storage room (Y19f), while Edmond is more interested in the Liquification Chamber, and the mysterious, fleshy goo on the floor (Y19e).

The room holds a few remains of the Ritual of Brain Transfers that took place here. It’s also home to a pair of angry Allips, who try to attack Edmond. The angry spirits of failed brain transfers are quickly put down by Fray and Celeste.

Nowhere to go but north. An large open window leads to a 35-ft gap in the spire, across which is another open window (Y19i).

As we’ve seen before, this party is armed with multiple traversal options, from Celeste’s monk wall-running to Edmond’s winged boots and Thimbleweed’s flying swarm. Even getting the non flying (or climbing) wizard NPC allies across is fairly trivial for this prepared party.

Across the gap, the party enter a small chamber shaped like a multi-pointed star. At the end of each alcove is a crystal that glows, forming a holographic image of a figure. The human man welcomes the party, introducing himself as Iriolarthas!

Hey, this should be easy then, right?
