Moxxi Floxxi’s Son, level 10 dwarf Life Domain cleric
Ms. Plissken, level 10 yuan-ti pureblood College of Lore Bard
Thumper, Level 10 harengon Ancestral Guardian Barbarian
Tom, level 10 tabaxi Arcane Trickster Rogue

We’re still trying to escape the first, true hallway of Acererak’s tomb. The lich’s teasing message isn’t much help. “Shun green” probably indicates the scary statue with the dark mouth-tunnel (which Ms. Plissken got bad vibes from detect magic). While the “second arch” must indicate the arch with the colorful waterfall.

Thumper grows impatient and steps through the arch, teleporting into a small, dark room with three levers and no exits.

Exasperated, the large harengon slams all three levers up at once using him rabbit’s foot hammer. A tiny, 2ft opening appears above him, much too small for him to squeeze through.

He tries the opposite approach, pulling all three levers down. The floor beneath him opens up, and he falls 100ft into darkness.

The other four discover a puzzle involving colors and lights associated with the archway. After some trial, error, and analysis of the mural-covered hallway, they find the right combination. Pushing the colored buttons correctly shuts off the shimmering portal, but the room beyond appears empty, and no way of reaching poor Thumper.

During the exploration, Montana notices a scene they passed by earlier, a painted on-door and a chest embedded in the wall.

Before they head back. Tom decides to check out the green statue, realizing that the tunnel is technically “night’s best color” which is also mentioned in the message.

He sends his familiar in first, but instantly loses connection. Feeling despondent, he leaps in after him, and is instantly vaporized.

Death Counter: 1.

Poor Tom! Apparently the mouth is actually a sphere of annihilation. Acererak is a cruel trickster, as no amount of valor would be sufficient to survive it.

As the trio heads back toward the fake-door and chest, a still-alive and raging Thumper pulls himself off of poisoned spikes at the bottom of the fall. The air is growing thin, but he uses his javelins as pitons to try and climb out, only to have the doors (floor?) above close, and fall halfway up.

Mortally wounded and gasping for air, he summons his ancestral bunnies and asks them if it was a good death.

Death Counter: 2.

Back in that first damn hallway, the survivors make it to the fake-door and chest. The chest is embedded halfway in the wall, and Montana is instantly suspicious.

Ms. Plissken sends one of her unseen servant students to investigate, and the ghost is killed by a poisoned needle.

While Montana chips away at the fake door (revealing a real one behind it), Moxxi Floxxi’s Son is dead-set on opening this obvious trap-chest. He reaches inside and pulls a lever, causing the floor beneath him to drop out, and he too lands on a bed of poisoned spikes (though casting aura of purity a few seconds earlier helps a bit).

As Montana reveals a new, real doorway, the trio are joined by two newcomers, Snigbat, the heroic goblin ranger (last seen in Forge of Fury and Storm King’s Thunder!), played by Chris, and Jerry, a fairy monk and friend of Tom, played by CT.

Montana lets the fresh-faced, miniscule warriors go first into this newly opened path. Beyond an empty hallway and through another door is a four-armed gargoyle!

Combat, finally!

Jerry uses his fey magic to cast faerie fire on the stony creature, allowing Snigbat and his trusty boar piggy to charge in and attack. Montana is close behind with his whip, and Ms. Plissken unleashes a dissonant whispers spell.

The gargoyle rains blows down on Snigbat, but is unable to penetrate the goblin’s surprisingly sturdy armor, and a flurry of blows from Jerry crumbles it into a pile of rocks.

Within the rocks is a necklace of sapphires. Treasure, woo! The dungeon may have killed two of our friends, but at least we get something out of it, right?

And there’s still a lot of dungeon left….
