The Neverwinter docks are under siege! Having broken past the blockade and battled through the harbor, the party pulls their ship to the nearest pier. The docks are swarming with sahuagin trying to capture people and drag them into the sea.
As the party disembarks they witness a new threat emerge: a massive, mutated, tentacled whale hauls itself out of the sea and flops onto land, wrecking buildings with its giant tentacles. Its toothed maw opens, spilling out hordes of sea spawn that rampage through the area.
The sea spawn attack pins the Neverwinter defenders — led by Harbormaster Len-Jes, back against the wall, allowing the sahuagin to run unchecked.
The party are left with many options and none of them good. But they’re closest to the sahuagin, who are infiltrating a warehouse on the water and already dragging netted people into the sea.
As former Neverwinter Watch, Mac immediately goes into hero-mode to save the people. He fires a quick two-shot blast into a sahuagin raider dragging someone through the water, then leaps in to save them, getting a shark bite for his trouble.
Savra throws a Tasha’s caustic brew at the nearest sahuagin, while Gotwald embiggens and charges across the docks toward the warehouse.
All the while the battle rages around them: arrows flying, docks exploding, and at one point even a massive tentacle from the giant ship-size monster smacks Savra, nearly downing her in a single blow.
Gotwald and Mac prove effective as they enter the warehouse, with Gotwald’s beefy armor blocking the shark-folk’s attacks, and Mac’s arrows rarely missing their mark.
Mac prioritizes rescuing people from their captured fates, which the DM appreciates!
With much of the warehouse clear, Gotwald charges into their commander, a sahuagin commander, and grapples him. But once the commander finally draws blood, his blood frenzy his activated, and he deals a series of vicious strikes upon the minotaur pirate-turned-fighter.
With some help from Mac, Gotwald proves victorious, though heavily wounded.
Cheese, Mac’s faithful drake, helps keep the sahuagin away from Savra. Savra can see the poor Neverwinter guards get overwhelmed throughout the battle, until only the critically wounded harbormaster remains.
She throws down a shatter spell, injuring and distracting several sea spawn, but an errant arrow knocks her unconscious, leading the nearest spawn to begin dragging her away!
Thankfully the creature is stopped cold by Mac’s arrows, but forcing Savra to self-stabilize while bleeding out on the docks.
Gotwald uses second wind to dash and charge across the pier and run heedlessly (but heroically!) towards the sea spawn — and the many, many fresh bodies that litter the ground.
The whale-monster continues to spew sea spawn out of its mouth. The nearby building explodes, burying Len-Jes in rubble soon after Gotwald arrives. Savra is still down (but not dead!) and Mac and Gotwald are heavily wounded. The situation is dire.
Then, magically materializing out of mist, a gold-scaled dragonborn appears in shining armor. He’s wielding a warhammer, and spews golden flame upon the sea spawn.
Kalinaar has arrived!
Behind him the gates open and several paladins come marching out, driving the spawn backwards.
At the same time, an ominous dark cloud rolls into the harbor. From out of the mist sails a spectral galleon, crewed by the dead. The ghost ship cuts its way up the Neverwinter River, and passes through the first stone bridge like it were a ghost.
Kalinaar yells to the party to go protect the city, as he charges toward the whale spawn with his forces.
