Following the transformative meeting with their shocking aboleth patron, the party enjoyed a more normal reward from Lord Neverember: cold hard cash, and a beefy discount on goods and services in the city!

The city still reels from the attack, but the party is ready to help jumpstart their economy by buying up a ton of potions.

They also return to the harbor district to look at getting their ship repaired, and a fancy new ballista installed. The total bill is 600gp, and this flush team barely bats an eye.

After casually reanimating some zombies from a corpse wagon, Savra visits the Cloaktower to see about getting a magic item repaired. She had found a Cube of Force in the Wreck of the Golden Crown, but it had a crack in it. The resident wizard is excited to work on it, costing 100gp for her services.

With their ship currently in drydock, the party heads over to Saltmarsh to check on Sanbalet. They have several quests and leads to pursue, and most without a location or names.

Mac knows even less, having disappeared during the battle with the revenant and the aboleth to help out citizens on the surface. The rest of the party decides not to mention the aboleth, though Mac is impressed when he sees Torre’s new Tentacular Arm upgrade.

Mac is also worried when he learns one of the captives from the sahuagin attack is his old mentor, Master Sliver!

In Saltmarsh they see the haunted house has been transformed into a Church of the Fathomless, with tentacles, octopus tanks, and a nasty dankness in the moist wood.

Torrel is in heaven, while everyone else coughs and cover their mouths.

Sanbalet is amiable as ever. He’s a bit annoyed at the church now literally over his head, but they no longer have to keep up with the haunted house bit. He asks the party about the attack on the city, and they ask if he’s learned any new information.

He does have a story to tell regarding the ghost ship that was spotted in town.

Captain Blackdagger was once a notorious pirate king, ruling the sees from his skyship and pirate fortress on a floating island above the sea.

But one day he chased a black dragon across the sea. When he got close, the much larger dragon angrily chased his ship all the way back to the skyhold, where the pirates were forced to hole up.

The dragon poisoned the waters of the skyhold, and cursed the pirates inside, transforming them into undead, forever tied to his will.

The reign of Blackdagger ended, but his ghostly ship and skeletal crew are still spotted every once in a while. No one is sure if the dragon Garrundar the Vile still resides in the Pirates’ Skyhold.

The good news is that the earthmote is hovering off the coast right near Neverwinter! The party just has to reach it.

They thank Sanbalet and return to Neverwinter. They find a gnome and a goblin selling a unique alcoholic beverage from Icewind Dale: Genocider! The pair arrived on a flying contraption that’s part airship and part mobile brewery, designed by Genocider CEO Edmond Olric.

The gnome is Spellix Romwod, and the goblin is his friend, Blista. The pair ran into trouble during the events of Rime of the Frostmaiden, and ultimately rescued by a party of adventurers, where they could use their skills to help rebuild Ten Towns following the devastating attacks.

Now the pair travel down the coast, introducing new mouths to the popular local drink from the Dale.

Partly due to the metagaming love of these previous NPCs, the party settles right in to talk franchise opportunities and enjoy some drinks.

Mac takes the initiative with Spellix, convincing him to fly around with a new banner to help advertise (understandably, Neverwinter citizens have not been in the mood to venture out for expensive, imported drinks lately).

call from the deep pirates skyhold airship

Spellix eventually agrees to fly out to the earthmote, and the party tags along to “help.” The airship is a complex interworking of levers, retractable wings, and a magically-bound elemental in a gigantic balloon. It’s all piloted by Blista and Spellix.

While in flight the party further convinces the traveling salespeople that the earthmote is the perfect location to open a brewery. No permits or licenses required!

As they near the Pirates’ Skyhold they can make out its surface features: a dismal swamp, a crumbling village, and an imposing fortress.

Suddenly a burst of flying, bat-like creatures explodes from a thicket of trees and attack the slow-moving airship.

The party is forced to defend themselves and the ship from a dozen stirges, including several swarms.

Torrel opens up a tentacled portal to the void (or perhaps the sea depths) with his new Hunger of Hadar (Fathomless?) spell. It kills several stirges, but absolutely freaks out poor Blista and Spellix, who have to avoid flying into the black hole nearby.

Savra uses her new zombie friends to attack the stirges as they flit close, while Mac takes out several with his bow. Gotwald embiggens and starts punching, though the swarm forces him to take out his magical anchor axe.

Torrel shows off his tentacular arm while in melee, while Gotwald and Mac get covered in stirges. Gotwald redirects a particularly nasty attack with his Cloud Rune, using one swarm to destroy the other!

As the last stirge falls, the ship suddenly lurches and Spellix cries out, saying the balloon has been torn! The shadowy creature inside escapes through the tear, and the ship begins to rapidly descend toward the swampy earthmote.

Crash landing incoming!
