The Genocider airship crashes on the edge of the earthmote known as Pirates’ Skyhold, floating 100 feet above the ocean near Neverwinter.

The air elemental inside the giant balloon has escaped, leaving the party momentarily stranded.

Thankfully, Genocider CEO Edmond Olric has prepared for these kinds of emergencies!

With Blista repairing the balloon, Spellix charges the party with hunting down and capturing the elemental, and bringing it back. He fetches some inventions by Edmond from below deck, including two Molecular Decay Packs, and an Elemental Box of Binding.

The MDPs can fire streams of containment energy to keep it in place, while the box can magically trap the elemental inside. Gotta weaken it first, however, you don’t want that elemental bustin’ out!

An explosion nearby confirms that the elemental hasn’t gone far. The earthmote isn’t very big, and much of it is covered in poisonous swamp water, with a crumbling village built on top.

Several emaciated, sickly lizardfolk peer out of broken windows and around corners to witness the arrival of the crashed airship, and the “weapon” they unleashed.

Mac, who speaks Draconic thanks to his drakewarden subclass, immediately addresses the concerned citizens, claiming that they were in fact chasing this elemental, and are here to help.

Another lizardfolk strides out of a nicer building to the north. She’s decked out in black robes and bone necklaces, and appears much healthier than the others, flanked by two equally well-fed, heavily armed bodyguards.

She calls out that it’s their solemn duty to repel these invaders and protect the earthmote, in staunch loyalty to “the Vile One.”

The party recalls the name of the black dragon who killed the pirates here was Garrundar the Vile.

There’s a bit of back and forth between Mac and the tribal leader. Mac quickly picks up that she’s a tyrant keeping her own people oppressed and weakened.

He further seals the deal by providing everyone with some cold bottles of refreshing Genocider!

The crowd is apprehensive and scared, but slowly warms up to Mac’s approach.

The tribal leader is furious. She waves her arms to demonstrate the power she wields, and two zombies animate out of the rubble of a nearby building.

Call from the deep pirates skyhold village

Savra, who has hung back from interacting with the poor lizardfolk, sends her own zombies forward for a zomb-off, then throws down a chaotic spell (Nathair’s Mischief) on the tribal leader and her guards. Mac climbs on top of a building to rain down arrows (downing both zombies!), and Gotwald charges toward the enemies, leaving the other lizardfolk awestruck and wide-eyed (and perhaps increasingly inebriated!).

Bubbling out of the water is another zombified threat – a zombie gator!

The tribal leader tries to paralyze Gotwald, but he shrugs it off. He gets super excited about gator wrestling, knocking back one of the lizardfolk guards, embiggening, and leaping into the poisonous water.

Savra steals the kill with her zomboy allies and a nasty toll the dead. Nathair’s mischief also does some work, forcing one of the guards to laugh uncontrollably and stride right off the edge of the earthmote!

After taking several big arrow hits from Mac, the leader sees the battle turning against her, and flees into her home. Mac chases after her, weapon drawn, but offers her a drink as truce. She hesitates, but tries to raise her wand at the last moment.

In the blink of an eye, Mac cuts off her arm, downing the fanatical leader!

The lizardfolk aren’t exactly cheering, but Mac does discover the house has extra supplies of food and water, though no monetary treasure or magic items aside from the leader’s wand of sickness.

The lizardfolk ask if they’re here to meet with the dragon, “like others do,” and they point toward the fortress on the far side of the island. They explain that the black dragon liberated them from the pirates, but their leader, who renamed herself Vile Scale, became a tyrant after earning the dragon’s favor (according to her anyway).

The party head that way, keeping their eyes peeled for the elemental.

Problem is, the damn thing is made of air, and can fly 90ft in a single round.

As they cross a bridge to toward a ruined tower on the outskirts of the village, the air elemental comes swooping in at Mac and Cheese in the lead, churning into its whirlwind attack.

Mac uses inspiration to make the STR save, and they avoid a grisly fate.

air elemental

Gotwald swings his magic anchor axe while Mac unleashes several swings from his magic scimitar*. Savra activates one of the Molecular Decay Packs, successfully slowing down the windy creature.

*The DM forgot to identify one of the magic items from the Neverwinter harbor battle as a scimitar of speed, which Mac uses to great effect in this session. Better late than never!

The commotion riles up some nearby trees, and half a dozen stirges come flying out, angry and ready to drain some blood!

The elemental attempts to flee, but it’s slowed by Savra’s beam. Mac hits it with a second Pack, grappling it in place, and wrangles it back towards them.

They had strapped the box of binding to Cheese, who aims and activates the trap. The weakened elemental has a slightly tougher save to make, and it fails, getting sucked into the trap. Success!

The party still has to fend off several angry stirges however, and all three end up with stuck-on strige syndrome at some point.

Gotwald even cleaves one off with his axe, nearly taking his own arm off in the process.

Bloodied and tired they finally take out the last of the stirges. Mac sends Cheese back to Spellix and the balloon to deposit the elemental, while the crew continues on toward the fortress.
