“You didn’t answer my question,” said Kethra, staring down the trio of odd tiny creatures, our apparent captors who were in need of our skills to save their world. “You were close to him, you must know your master’s weakness.”

‘The Master’ was what they called a powerful planar wizard, the creator of this domain they called Anonyma, a refugee world for displaced creatures and biomes. He’d disappeared, and now their world was threatened by invading armies of demons and angels.

And they turned to us as a last line of defense, which I’m pretty sure we never signed up for.

“And that’s the first lead we have,” said the magical cat Rycresh. “As far as we know our master has only one weakness: Marina. His lover. She lives here on this plane. If he told anyone where he was going or what he was doing, it might be her.”

“She’s not nice though,” said the tiny fairy, Thyxia.

“No she’s really not,” said the small hairy man called Feogh. “She would be your first contact, but it ain’t gonna be easy. He loves her you see but, she’s a dangerous, vile woman. She’s a druidess, but she has a bad habit of wiping out civilizations she thought were encroaching on the wild.”

“We do know that Master have her a grove so she wouldn’t hurt anyone anymore. He visits her from time to time,” said the fairy.

“Alright, show on us on this map where we can find her,” said Scarlet.

After our last battle, one final Bellboy remained. We noted the gigantic doors at the south end of the entrance hall were still sealed. We headed north into a winding set of hallways with several smaller rooms, like an office, bathroom, study, and a room full of liquor.

Gillian and Scarlet went down opposite ends as the hallway split into the northwest and northeast. Gillian discovered a wizard’s office, including a book in an odd runic language, and a series of scrolls with names written in Common – some of which she recognized as her former adventuring companions from Tomb of Annihilation. Nearby crystals had been cracked, their magic spent. Is this how we were summoned?

Scarlet kept her eyes on the prize, heading northeast toward the sound of the Bellboy, and calling Kethra to shut it down.

Kazin stopped at one of the smaller rooms, his imp familiar Styx gleefully leaping into the room full of liquor. Kazin stopped him from drinking two magical liquids, pocketing them for later. He heard a soft humming sound and found one of the mugs on the table had a mouth. He poured some liquid inside and the mouth began singing, loudly, about him.

Meanwhile Kethra had deactivated the Bellboy. It sat down and gave us our final clue:

A SONG OF WHISKEY AND WINE

Kaelan rounded the corner and knew exactly what this was about. He ushered them to the liquor room, finding Styx in a disgusting state of drunkeness. Kethra picked him up and squeezed some whiskey out of him into the mouthy mug, and combined it with some nearby wine.

The mug sang a horribly discordant melody, but at the same time we heard the sound of moving stone. The party gathered back where the hallways forked and discovered a new path north. In the room we found a trio of odd characters, a short hairy man (Feogh), a magical teleporting cat (Rycresh), and a tiny fairy (Thyxia).

When they spoke we instantly recognized the voices we heard when we were first summoned to this plane. Our captors, of a sort.

They explained the situation: this world is called Anonyma, a refugee plane for all matter of creatures and biomes. The master in charge of it all, a powerful planar wizard, had recently disappeared. Not long after, the world was invaded by armies of demons and angels.

Their only contingency plan was to summon heroes from other worlds to help them. Lucky us!

We had very few clues and leads. Gillian handed over the book she found. They were able to explain it was a logbook of all the inhabitants of the plane. The last two entries mentioned groups of both angels and demons who wanted to forsake their respective factions and live in peace. Seems their superiors have come calling.

The other clue is a lover of the planar wizard, a powerful and apparently genocidal druid named Marina. Her grove is far to the north, about a week’s travel on foot. We were given a map of the region, showing the tower we’d fought out way down from smack dab in the middle.

The strange trio gave us some provisions for our upcoming travel, a folding boat to cross the water, and two choices: we could choose between two different paths to reach the grove, and choose which of the three companions to take with us.

Each of the companions specialized in different areas. Feogh was an expert on the creatures of the plane, Rycresh in magic, and Thyxia in the environment.

We examined our own skillsets, noting that we pretty much lacked in all three. Yet TIM is surprisingly decent with animals, and Kaelan is technically a Ranger with some tracking and outdoor skills. We opted for Rycresh the cat to help us with identifying magic. Plus, he’s a teleporting cat!

The path to the grove was a choice between traveling through a giant sentient forest called One Wood, or crossing the domain of Undeen, a dangerous seductress. We voted on the forest, and prepared for our first adventure outside the tower.
